Theodore “Ted” Elo
Early Life
Born and raised in St. Joseph, Ted grew up running around the city and being out in nature. His parents placed him in multiple programs, and found himself excelling in physically active programs. At age 15, his tenacity pushed him to join the top 5% of scouts by earning his Eagle Scout commendation. At 17 ½ Ted was planning to join the military or work for the local paper manufacturer, until the end of his junior year at Bishop LeBlond. On the last day of school, Ted dove into a swimming hole and was paralyzed from that day forward.
It was after his accident Ted found himself having to change course for his career aspirations and dedicated his life to Law and Public Service. He went on to Missouri Western State University (then State College) to earn his bachelors in History and Political Science, and then earn his Law degree from the University of St. Louis School of Law.
Professional Experience
He returned to St. Joseph and practiced private sector law for nearly two decades before joining the local government, the City of St. Joseph, as an Assistant City Attorney in 2003.
As an Assistant City Attorney he helped the city eliminate unsafe buildings, enforce code violations in administrative hearings, navigate builders and developers through the processes at the City, and champion commercial partnerships for St. Joseph and regional businesses.
Present Day
Today, Ted continues to serve the public as an Assistant City Attorney. His 30 years of hands-on experience in the public and private sectors continues to be the foundation of his work and decision making.
